Cod Liver Oil

A golden oil derived from the Livers of Cod, Gadus Morrhua and other species of the Cod family, Cod Liver oil has a very long history of usage as a medicinal oil. Before the advent of synthetic vitamins, cod liver oil was consumed regularly by the general population for it’s vitamin A and D.  Cod Liver Oil is still consumed by the tablespoon and gel capsule as a dietary supplement;  however, less well known is the fact that it is used as an ingredient in a large variety of medicinal skin treatment products such as A&D ointments. Furthermore, Cod liver oil is a good source of the omega-3 fatty acids: EPA and DHA which have received a great deal of press. Cod Liver Oils with higher values of vitamin A and vitamin D exist the most common of which is 2500 IU/g Vitamin A, 250 IU/g Vitamin D. Higher concentrations of vitamin A and D in these products allow encapsulators to produce smaller capsules with relatively high vitamin potencies.
